Audi has confirmed prices and specs for the all-new A1 Sportback the five -door version of the popular Audi A1 supermini .
Prices for the new model, which comes with more headroom for rear-seat passengers, will start from £13,980 - a £560 premium over the entry-level three-door version - when it goes on sale in the UK this spring.
From launch, buyers will have a choice of four turbocharged engines: a 1.2 petrol averaging 55.4mpg with CO2 emission of 118g/km; a 1.4 petrol averaging 52.3mpg with emissions of 126g/km; a more powerful 1.4 petrol unit (47.9mpg and 139g/km); and a more efficient 1.6 diesel engine (77.3mpg and 99g/km). A 2.0 TDI model will follow in the summer.
Audi will also launch a new 138bhp 1.4 TFSI petrol engine with Cylinder on Demand technology, which allows the engine to close off two of its four cylinders during cruising, for example to reduce fuel consumption and lower CO2 emissions.
This version offers similar power and economy to the 2.0-litre TDI, but will be cheaper and more tax efficient as it doesn't incur the 3 per cent company car tax penalty that apply to diesel engines .
Buyers will also be able to choose from three trims for their A1 Sportback - SE, Sport and S line with all models coming with alloy wheels, air-con, split-folding rear seats, electric windows and a CD player with MP3 compatibility as standard.
