Chevrolet Matiz (05 on)
The Chevvy Matiz is only a few years old. Having said that, it has great space in the back for books, bags and CDs. The only quirk we found was that the clutch is relatively high.
Verdict: Great
car - definitely for those wanting to whizz in the city. 7/10
Citroën C1 (05 on)
This car is brilliant for city drives. It comes in a great range of colours and costs just under £25 to fill the tank up. Unleaded, of course! There are also many deals from Citroen themselves to lure younger drivers into buying new cars.
Verdict: Decent car for short people, and better than the C2. Those over 6'0 should seek a different car. 6/10
Citroën C2 (03 on)
Again, we cant really fault this car. It's great for city driving and handles well on the motorway. It's got a good safety rating from NCAP and will have secured any parent's peace of mind.
Verdict: Very nippy car that should please the thrill seekers. 7/10
Fiat Seicento (98-04)
Fiat used to come under serious stick. But now they own Ferrari, so who's laughing now! The Seicento is a reliable car which can be bought under £5,000 and costs just £23 to fill the tank on a good day!
Verdict: Very nice car, very cheap and very good fun! 7/10
Renault Clio (05 on)
Renault Clio's are faultless cars, unless you watch Watchdog. There have been a number of cases of the bonnet coming open during driving. This has caused very serious injuries to several drivers. This occured on Mark 2 Clios. However, this does put an element of doubt into most drivers.
Verdict: A car which seems to be predominantly drivien by girls! Why?! 6/10
Skoda Fabia Hatchback (00 on)
Skodas are known for being middle of the road cars. They're reliable, in insurance group 2 and are easy to insure. Insurance should come to around £600 for females, £750 for males. They'll last you a long time and will fetch a good resale value.
Verdict: Very reliable and durable car for middle of the road drivers. 7/10
smart fortwo Coupé (04-07)
smart cars - where would we be without them. They're so small they can be parked either sideways or simply by driving the car forward into a space. London's full of them and Mercedes own them so they're definitely very fashionable.
Verdict: Great car, but does sound like a tractor. 8/10
Toyota Aygo (05 on)
The Aygo has been marketed solely at young drivers. So, most young drivers should be able to pick up a great deal either for a brand new Aygo from a Toyota dealer or second hand. Costs £25 to fill up with unleaded and cheap to service.
Verdict: Decent car for short people. Those over 6'0 should seek a different car. 6/10
Vauxhall Corsa (06 on)
By far the best car we took on the road. It's got poke, costs under £30 to fill up and is in the bottom two insurance groups depending on what trims you decide to get on your Corsa. It's won numerous awards and is a very funky car.
Verdict: We love it. Who needs Va Va Voom when you have Va Va Vauxhall! 9/10
Volkswagen Fox (06 on)
A VW is a VW. It's a great car. Reliable, durable and cheap to run are all words that can be used to describe the Fox. However, one thing does detract from it and its the look. It look like its been made in the hills down south where yocal folk mate with family members.
Verdict: Enjoyable car, but perhaps too ugly, and too expensive when new. 8/10
